Asylum Seekers Psychological Assessment, Reports and Therapy

Psychological assessments and reports will detail any PTSD related to mental or physical abuse and torture; provide a diagnosis and future treatment needs and prognosis; and detail the impact of deportation on the asylum seeker. Any time spent in a detention centre is also considered, and short and long term effects of detention, such as any impact on mental health, are detailed in any report.

If there are symptoms to substantiate mistreatment or torture to support an application for asylum, then the expert will state this in the report.

The report will document any details of why the applicant has a well-founded fear of persecution because of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or due to their membership of a particular social group. Validated details of this nature can be put forward as acceptable reasons for a waiver to exclusion, deportation and removal.

Clinical Volunteer Hours

Volunteering offers psychology students the opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience rooted in best practices. Through volunteer work, students can acquire practical clinical techniques for handling difficult cases, sharpen their clinical judgment, and develop skills in composing psychological reports.

If you are reading this, you might be going through a very difficult time in your life. You might be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, haunted by past traumas, or struggling with relationship issues. No matter the concern, each of these challenges can leave you feeling isolated and affect every aspect of life.

In therapy with me, you will find a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions freely. We will work together to find the root cause of your distress and develop practical strategies to address these concerns.

Together in therapy, we will discover and challenge the negative thought patterns that contribute to anxiety and depression. We will work on developing emotional regulation skills to manage overwhelming emotions and process past traumas for healing. Additionally, we will focus on improving communication skills to foster healthier relationships, helping you move towards a more fulfilling life.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a Yorkville University graduate with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I also hold a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from University of Guelph. In the last few years, I have transitioned from working with neurodevelopmental disorders to working with diverse therapy clients facing burnout, mood disorders, and other mental health challenges. Working with such a wide range of individuals has allowed me to understand the intricacies of different conditions and ways psychological knowledge could be used to provide support to individuals.

I draw from various evidence-based approaches such Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop coping strategies and reclaim a sense of agency over their lives. Throughout this therapeutic process, clients learn to identify and reframe their thought patterns, discover newfound clarity and self- awareness. They learn to navigate life challenges with greater resilience and self- compassion which aids in living a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I have always been passionate about helping others find their path to well-being. My own transformative journey through therapy has ignited a passion in me to help others through this process. Because of this, I understand the courage it takes to seek help. This allows me to bring a deep sense of empathy and a unique perspective that is helpful in connecting with clients like yourself.

My clients struggle with trauma, stress, grief, cultural assimilation, adjustment, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, PTSD, C-PTSD and borderline personality disorders. In our initial sessions, we'll discuss your history and current issues.

As therapy progresses, we'll explore underlying patterns, unresolved conflicts, and challenges. Most of my clients, gradually feel more confident in themselves, their ability to regulate their emotions, and their relationships.

Skills therapy gives you practical tools to handle tough situations and improve how you respond. When we use both together, you learn more about yourself and get better at managing your feelings and relationships.
